Knee Replacement in the San Juan Mountains: Introducing Destination Surgery

Most people picture knee replacement as a hospital stay in a big city, followed by weeks of recovery at home. Destination Surgery offers something different: a minimally invasive knee replacement with Dr. Amanda Marshall-Rodriguez, followed by a recovery in one of the most beautiful corners of Colorado.
Dr. Marshall-Rodriguez is a board-certified, fellowship-trained joint reconstruction specialist and the founder of TruOrtho in San Antonio, Texas. In 19.5 years of practice she has performed more than 7,500 knee replacements and over 1,000 hip replacements. Creede, Colorado is her home away from home, and Destination Surgery is her Colorado practice.
How It Works
Arrive: travel to the San Luis Valley and check in to your lodging.
Surgery: your minimally invasive knee replacement takes place at the newly renovated Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte.
Therapy: physical therapy continues at the RGH Clinic in Creede.
Recover: rest at a riverside cabin, a Victorian flat in town, or a restored 1874 hotel, with the San Juan Mountains outside your window.
A Recovery Measured in Days
Dr. Marshall-Rodriguez's tissue-sparing technique is designed to disturb as little healthy tissue as possible. Patients walk with assistance the day of surgery and, on average, walk unassisted (no cane or walker) within 4 to 6 days.
That means your family can come along. While you rest, they can fish the Rio Grande, hike, ride horses or see a show at Creede Repertory Theatre, and you can rejoin them sooner than you might expect.
