Your First Week After a Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement

Every recovery is different, and your own plan will come from Dr. Marshall-Rodriguez and your therapy team. Here is what the first week typically looks like for Destination Surgery patients.
Day of Surgery: Up and Walking
Your minimally invasive knee replacement takes place at Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte. Thanks to the tissue-sparing technique, you will be up and walking with assistance the very same day.
Days 1 to 3: Recover and Rejuvenate
Guided physical therapy begins at the RGH Clinic in Creede, focused on bending, straightening and strengthening your new knee.
Between sessions you rest at your lodge, cabin or hotel, with ice, elevation and plenty of fresh mountain air.
Concierge follow-up keeps you in touch with the team. Past patients describe receiving daily progress check-in texts for several weeks after surgery.
Days 4 to 6: Walking Unassisted
On average, Dr. Marshall-Rodriguez's patients walk unassisted, with no cane or walker, within 4 to 6 days of surgery. Many are ready to rejoin family outings by the end of their stay.
Heading Home
Physical therapy is arranged to continue close to your home, so your progress carries on without a gap.
Follow your surgeon's instructions on travel, wound care and activity, and call the team with any questions.
